Treatment sessions

All therapy plans begin with an initial assessment session, which will last between 45-90 minutes. This provides the opportunity to discuss goals and treatment options and to arrange any appropriate ongoing sessions. I offer sessions Monday to Friday. Follow-up sessions will last 60 minutes if tolerated and frequency will be decided at initial assessment.  If I cannot be available for one of our sessions, I will give you as much notice as possible. If I can, I will offer you an alternative time. Should you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please give as much notice as possible.

There is no obligation to attend all the sessions arranged and either of us are free to terminate therapy at any time, with 24 hours’ notice. A review session will take place at the end of the agreed number of sessions and this is where we jointly assess progress and what further action, if any, may be needed. If we decide at the assessment interview not to work together I am usually able to provide, wherever possible, details of alternative therapists and agencies to contact.

Contact

I am frequently unable to answer the phone, but please leave a message on the confidential voicemail or by e-mail and I will respond as soon as possible. I will agree best forms of contact with you on initial assessment.

Jacinta Sharp

"I am a neurophysiotherapist with over 15 years experience working in neurology. Most of this experience has been in the local area, working both privately and with local NHS trusts. I am registered with the national registration body for health professionals (HCPC) and with the association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology (ACPIN). After completing an initial Physiotherapy Degree at the University of Sydney, the leading University in neurological physiotherapy in Australia, I completed my basic rotations in Sydney hospitals before moving to the UK.

I consider ongoing training and development to be key in keeping up with the ever changing field of neurological rehabilitation. I have continued further post graduate training in Stroke and Neurorehabilitation at UCLan and Keele Universities, as well as working with specialist adjunct companies.

Because of this background, I have a strong evidence based approach to therapy in neurological rehabilitation including aspects of Movement Science approach, Bobath, Functional Electrical Stimulation, Saebo, Dynamic Movement Orthoses, PD Warrior approaches and other adjuncts.

I believe that a thorough initial assessment and discussion of your needs and goals is the foundation of a successful, tailored therapy program. Treatment choices should be selected from those with good clinical evidence behind them, balanced by personal ability and preference. "
